This year has been quite busy in terms of work and other compromises, so we think it would be a good idea to reward ourselves with uncommon holidays. Although Spain is suffering a profound economic crisis, we are not affected economically yet, so we've reserved some money to spend on our summer holidays. We plan to go to "Lapland," a virgin region in the north of Finland, to do a multiadventure in this natural landscape. The adventure is ten days long: three days walking, three days going by bicycle, four days canoeing, and the last day will be reserved to visit the city of Enontekio. The route is about 700 kilometers long. The climate there is quite cold in winter and autumn and tolerable in spring and summer, oscillating between 0 degrees Celsius and 15 degrees Celsius. When we'll be there it'll be summer time, so we only are a bit worried about the temperature during the night. It's better to practice some sport before doing the adventure to enjoy it without physical stress and suffering too much stiffness. One of the most important things to remember in this kind of adventure is not to carry a lot of weight, especially if you are not an expert in the matter. The extra weight could turn a fun adventure into an adventure you want to end as soon as possible.
I personally like the idea of combining holiday time with sport practice to avoid boredom, and even more if it's combined with a natural environment activity. Although I'm able to go to the beach to sunbathe, eat in restaurants, go shopping, and spend time during the night in pubs, I have to say that I can't bear this kind of entertainment for too many days. It turns into hard work for me! However, my girlfriend disagrees with me in this point, and every year we have to negotiate what sort of holidays we are going to do. The classical problem of "the mountain or the beach."
Turning back to the economic point of view, we normally concentrate our expenses on large activities or acquisitions instead of spending smaller quantities each weekend going out or shopping for unnecessary stuff. Moreover, our mortgage monthly payment has decreased because of the fall of the Euribor, which is our reference index here in Spain for mortgage loans.
